
ABOUT ME
Kevin Tolbert is a distinguished figure known for his remarkable contributions across multiple sectors. Kevin began his career at the Dearborn Engine Plant at Ford Motor Company with UAW Local 600. After his activity and early activism he was appointed to the Technical Skills Representative and Ford Communications Network Coordinator. He next career move was at UAW Region 1A as a CAP Coordinator where he launched the website and infused technology and energy into the region. Kevin was appointed to the International UAW in July 2006, by President Ron Gettlefinger based upon the recommendation from then Vice-President Jimmy Settles.
Renowned as an award-winning leader within the United Autoworkers International Union, he boasts a wealth of experience in contract negotiation and member servicing, spanning diverse domains such as automotive, seating, gaming, health insurance, municipal workers, and legal matters. Kevin played a pivotal role in the Education Department, as an integral part of planning conferences and delivering comprehensive training across various segments of the union. After thirty years in the automotive industry, Kevin retired September 2024 to pursue other endeavors.
On July 8, 2023, Kevin Tolbert was elected as the Chair of the 12th Congressional District, marking another significant chapter in his illustrious journey. His leadership prowess extends across multiple echelons of the political landscape, having successfully secured three terms within the Michigan Democratic Party's State leadership team. A seasoned campaigner, Kevin has lent his expertise to a plethora of local, state, and federal campaigns, solidifying his reputation as a stalwart force. Beyond his political endeavors, he has been an integral part of several community organizations, rendering his expertise as a board member for esteemed institutions like Habitat for Humanity Detroit, Hannah Foundation, and Detroit City Chess Club. Presently, Kevin serves in the distinguished role of 1st Vice-President with the Detroit Branch of the NAACP, a testament to his enduring commitment, and holds the revered status of a Diamond Life Member.
In his personal sphere, Kevin is a devoted father to three sons - Jakhari, Kaiden, and Khalil, epitomizing hisvalues of family and responsibility. Having earned his Bachelor's degree in Communications Studies from Wayne State University, he now embarks on an academic journey in pursuit of advanced knowledge, currently enrolled in Wayne State Law School to obtain his graduate degrees.
